Task-5-Online-Microteaching-Screencast

Screencasting as a Form of Teaching Online:

This is an area that I have been thinking of doing for the past while now and I have always put off doing it as I really worried about getting the content right and acurate and I hate it when the video sound is wrong and hissy. The technology has always been an issue for me as I have done screen casting before and the quality of the video is always an issue. As technology has improved and better still the internet and broadband I have come to discover screencasting and now want to improve my audio and screen quality.

From a teaching point of view screencasting can become a really effective forms of teaching whereby students can review what has been done in class at home or on their phones or tablets is virtually any location anywhere in the world. It offers much more scope and the ability to refer to the screencast as a way to further learning and consolidate a concept or an idea previously discussed and talked about within lectures, tutorials and lab sessions.

Students can access the screen casts at any time within a class session and review or catch up on session missed or ideas expressed. This can be a great tool and an effective way to deal with students that don’t understand a point or that may have missed a session within the semester.

The only issue that I had with the process of creating the screen casts was the time, I spent a hugh amount of time redoing the screen cast again and again. I repeatly made errors and had to start again which I found quite time consuming. I also discovered once I had created a number of screen casts that there was a sound issue as the video progressed through to the end. This is a technical issue and a hissing noise that can be heard in the videos that turns my own voice into a muffle. So these will have to be done again which is not what I had intended, another time wasting part of this process revealed.
